Unfortunately, pregnancy loss is very common.
According to the March of Dimes, 10-20% of pregnancies are loss before week 20 of gestation. Some statistics estimate it’s as many as 1 in 4. 80% of losses occur in the first trimester (before week 13 of gestation); 20% occur in the second trimester (weeks 13-19). Third trimester pregnancy losses (weeks 20 and beyond) are considered stillbirths.
Parents who experience miscarriage often feel a deep sense of loss that is accompanied by feelings of intense and prolonged grief. Because these feelings might be unexpected or are misunderstood, they are often not properly processed. Women who have miscarriages are often expected to get back to work, back to life, and back to normal as if nothing happened and so are their partners.
BUT SOMETHING DID HAPPEN! Miscarriage is a painful experience and should be acknowledged as such.
We aim to help by providing immediate post-recovery assistance with our Maci bags and by providing an outlet for parents who have had this experience to create a lasting legacy for their child through memorial scholarships.
